Urgent Care Clinic: Weekend Medical Services

urgent care Rockport, TX

When you go to an urgent care center, you expect good service, attentive staff and doctors who can diagnose and treat your health issues. During the weekdays, you may head to your primary care physician’s office if you are ill or you got hurt. What happens when the doctor is unavailable or when the office is closed for the day? This is when urgent care facilities can serve your needs. These clinics can handle minor and moderate conditions during extended hours for your convenience. Before you head to see the doctor here, it is good to know what services the doctors and nurses at the urgent care clinic can provide.

What does a clinic do?

While an emergency room admits patients who are suffering from serious, life-threatening conditions, an urgent care clinic helps people who have moderate or minor health problems. The clinic has doctors who have the training and knowledge to diagnose and treat different ailments for all parts of the body. Here, a patient can get X-rays, blood tests and physical exams. These clinics will see patients who have a variety of illnesses, including colds, the flu, sore throats, sprains and breaks, allergic reactions and stomach pain.

Why go here?

Some people may automatically go to the emergency room for any painful illness or condition. The ER staff will not refuse to serve someone who is there with minimal or minor symptoms. However, the patient should go to an urgent clinic for non-life-threatening issues. These centers cost less than an emergency room and often admit and release patients faster. It is more likely a facility is close by a patient than an ER at a hospital.

Weekend visits

Patients will get the same treatment and service from urgent care clinics as they would from the doctor’s office. The big difference is that the doctor’s office is probably closed on Saturday and Sunday, while the clinic is open for patients. People should check the hours of nearby centers, but most are open longer than the family doctor’s practice. If a person’s condition is not putting their life in danger, but the patient does not want to wait until Monday, a weekend visit makes a lot of sense.

What will happen at the urgent care center?

At the clinic, the patient will check in, provide insurance information, make a co-pay, if applicable and detail what is wrong. A nurse or staff member will check the patient’s vitals and will perform a physical examination. The doctor will focus on the area that is causing the patient pain or trouble. If required, the doctor will run tests to determine the ailment or source of the issue. Based on the diagnosis, the doctor may prescribe medicine or counsel the patient on self-care.

The weekend is open

Many medical providers take the weekend off. If you need care for a non-emergency problem, you do not have to wait for Monday. Urgent care facilities can provide you with the care and relief you need, even on the weekends. Find a center close to you and look up the hours of operation.
